Red Letter Philosophy

May 25, 2020

There are those, this very day, who would take your freedom from you; for your own good, of course. In a moral universe, there are competing values, and you can't have all values equally. Wars begin in conflicting ideas and values. This is why we memorialize our beloved dead. The next time you sit at a corner cafe, sipping lattes, in the cool breeze of Spring, remember someone gave his life for that privilege. He never got married, never had children, never grew old, so that you could.

We have need to be mindful and remember those who fought and died and made possible what we take for granted.  Because permanence is the illusion of every age.
